Fueled by a love of the written word, a fascination with early illuminated manuscripts and a passion for the beauty of the natural world, my work has been a joyful, ongoing journey of discovery. More than fifty years ago, I began to explore the lettering arts as an expressive medium, and the captivating elegance and versatility of letterforms quickly became my focus. As my artistic style developed, I found a balanced integration between text and watercolor to be satisfyingly articulate, with the added benefit of each discipline enabling me to further develop the other. Recently, in a somewhat unexpected turn in my long calligraphic career, I've found myself less dependent on that interplay between text and image, and have made a gradual decision to test the strength of my small, minutely-detailed watercolors without the accompanying text. It's a challenge which I'm still exploring with surprise and a great deal of pleasure.
